Public-Private Connection in Urban Displacement: A Case Study of Lagos State

The names of certain private actors, notably popular chieftaincy families in Lagos, are often mentioned in most of the documented eviction exercises carried out in Lagos’ informal settlements in the name of urban renewal. This research lifts the veil of urban renewal in order to interrogate and understand the roles private actors play in facilitating mass evictions in the informal settlements, and concludes by establishing the actual beneficiaries of the cleared slums.
