#OSUNDECIDES: The Issues Within

Osun TV 3

Spaces for Change.S4C’s executive director, Ms. Victoria Ohaeri was among the guest analysts on Silverbird Television (STV) that led the analysis and public conversation around the conduct of the Osun gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Are the electorate and the electoral management body – INEC – adequately prepared for the governorship election in Osun State, and the general elections scheduled in 2015? Will Nigeria’s electoral transition signal the beginning of a profound transformation of Africa’s social and economic landscape? Will she seize this moment to reduce the fragmentation in the political landscape, reverse the unchecked culture of impunity and wrestle powerful vested interests that have undermined key decision making and proper management of assets of the state? What roles can the civil society play to enhance voter education and deepen the quality of civic and democratic engagement?

Exploring answers to these questions and many more, dominated the August 9, 2014 Election Day conversation televised live, reaching millions of viewers across the world, who tuned in to watch the program from their local TV channels, DSTV, GOTV and Startimes. Ms. Ohaeri discussed these issues relying on documented results from election observation, youth focus group conversations and empirical research conducted by Spaces for Change over the years.
